They’re selling it for three thousand dollars above sticker because there’s high demand out on the west coast. People charge more, a lot more, so now sales tax went up to $3,400. The state fees went up as well. Our dealer documentation fee went up to $11.98 because maybe they’ve got some accessories added on top of a dealer doc fee or some other processing. We just don’t know that yet, so you’d think you were there, right? But notice I added those in by hand, so our sales tax, once we add that in, goes up to $43,729. So now we went from $37,000 to $38,000 to $43,000.

That’s why when you send me a request asking what price you should be paying in Minnesota, what’s the price in Oregon, or California, what should you be paying, I really can’t answer that. As much as I’d like to answer every question and say, “Oh, you should be paying $37,000 out the door” or “You should pay $25,000 out the door,” I don’t really know. Your codes could be so different based on just sales tax, your DMV registration fees, maybe your DMV and your state charges eight hundred dollars, where in North Carolina it’s a hundred dollars. So many different factors and criteria.

Plus, with the chip shortage going on right now, cars are going for higher rates. Instead of getting a five thousand dollar discount, you might be paying MSRP, or you might be paying $2,000 above, or if it’s a Forerunner TRD Pro, you might be paying $10,000 more. It’s supply and demand right now. That’s just what it is in the automotive industry. It’s kind of tough, but the good news is you can still get your vehicles. You might just have to pre-order them.

You earn points when you use your credit card because the store has to pay a fee to the credit card company. The fee for a big purchase like a truck would be very high, so it’s unlikely you’ll find a dealer who will let you use a credit card. If they did, they would probably raise the price of the truck to cover the cost, which would go against your goal of getting a good deal.
